Zelensky secures $2.5B aid

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky made a strategic stop in Halifax before heading to Florida. During the visit, he received significant financial backing from Canada.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney announced a package of 2.5 billion Canadian dollars (≈1.830 billion U.S. dollars) to support Ukraine’s economy and future reconstruction.

"Carney said that the aid includes funds for the IMF to grant loans to Kyiv, as well as a debt suspension and credit guarantees."

In the bilateral meeting in Halifax, both leaders reviewed progress on peace talks and regional security.

Zelensky will depart Halifax for Palm Beach, Florida, where he will present President Donald Trump his 20‑point peace plan, aiming for a deal before 2025.

This stop strengthens Zelensky’s position, with the financial and political support of his closest allies.
