On Tuesday, Ukrainian authorities announced an increase in the number of requests from Russian families seeking information about missing soldiers. Since then, a new wave of inquiries against the backdrop of Ukraine's revival has been made, resulting in several such requests. According to representatives of the Ukrainian government, this trend indicates that many families in Russia are also experiencing similar pain and are trying to learn about the fate of their loved ones.
One such story is that of Nina Kovalenko. Her son, Pavel, went missing in 2015, and up to this date, there is no information about him. Nina recounted that she turned to the Ukrainian authorities in hopes of finding answers, knowing that the chances of success were extremely slim. Nevertheless, for many families, such a step may turn out to be the only chance to know something about their loved ones and to return them home.
"We also need to remember that the war affects not only Ukrainians but also people in Russia. These families go through similar experiences and suffering," added Nina.
