UN General Assembly Condemns Russian Invasion

The UN General Assembly passed a resolution condemning Russia's invasion of Ukraine, calling for the withdrawal of Russian troops, despite opposition from the USA.

The UN General Assembly today approved a resolution condemning the Russian invasion of Ukraine and calling for the withdrawal of Russian troops. However, this time, the resolution faced opposition from the United States and received much less support than in previous votes.

The resolution, presented by Ukraine and co-sponsored by the majority of EU countries, received support from 93 countries, opposition from 18, and abstentions from 65 nations. In contrast, similar resolutions in 2022 and 2023 were backed by 141 countries.

During the debate, divergent stances regarding the situation in Ukraine were highlighted. In this regard, Ukraine's representative to the UN stated: "This resolution is a clear sign of solidarity with the Ukrainian people and a strong rejection of Russian aggression."

Despite the decrease in support, diplomatic efforts continue in an attempt to address the crisis in Ukraine and facilitate a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
