European leaders expressed their support for Ukraine and the country's president, Volodymyr Zelensky, following a tense confrontation with U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House. Roberta Metsola, President of the European Parliament, assured that "they are never alone" and committed to working for a just and lasting peace. For his part, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz emphasized that "no one wants peace more than the Ukrainians" and called for Europe to take the lead in the process towards peace in Ukraine.
In the same vein, French President Emmanuel Macron reminded of the importance of supporting Ukraine and sanctioning Russia, calling for respect for those who have been fighting from the beginning. Other European leaders, such as Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala, expressed their solidarity with Ukraine and its need for a peace based on respect for international law and fairness.
In contrast, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban praised Trump for his pro-peace stance, generating divided opinions among European leaders. The cancellation of the press conference where an agreement between the United States and Ukraine would be signed, due to the confrontation between Trump and Zelensky, sparked strong European backing for Ukrainian sovereignty.
In response to the messages of support, Zelensky thanked the European leaders and reiterated his commitment to peace. However, the Ukrainian leader urged for courage and strength in the face of difficult circumstances.
