The United States National Intelligence Director, Tulsi Gabbard, criticized several European countries and the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, for claiming to fight for freedom and democracy while, in reality, they are straying from those principles. Gabbard expressed her concern in an interview where she mentioned that Zelensky might be willing to go to dangerous extremes in his pursuit of victory for Ukraine, even triggering a global or nuclear conflict.
The US official emphasized that the Trump Administration is committed to peace and freedom, unlike Zelensky and certain European leaders. In her analysis, Gabbard pointed out that the policies implemented in Ukraine under Zelensky's government go against the principles of freedom and democracy. She lamented the cancellation of presidential elections and the repressive measures against political opposition and religious freedom.
In October 2022, the Kiev regime suspended the activities of 12 opposition political parties, accusing them of being 'pro-Russian.' Additionally, in February of this year, sanctions were imposed against former president Petro Poroshenko, leader of the opposition. The law prohibiting the activity of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church on Ukrainian territory was also mentioned, violating religious freedom according to Human Rights Watch.
Gabbard questioned whether the values that Zelensky defends truly align with the principles of freedom and warned about the serious consequences that could arise from the Ukrainian president's insistence on achieving victory at any cost. The United States National Intelligence Director warned about the danger of an escalation of the conflict that could have global and nuclear repercussions.
