Trump Pressures Ukraine for Peace Deal Amid Russia's Tensions

Donald Trump maintains pressure on Ukraine to move forward with a peace agreement, while Russia is considering a temporary ceasefire under certain conditions. The US president seeks to end the war triggered by Russia's invasion of Ukraine, although he has reversed US support for Kiev and has shown interest in Moscow.

In a statement to reporters in the Oval Office, Trump mentioned that "we are doing very well with Russia." However, he decided to suspend military aid to Ukraine and some intelligence exchanges with Kiev following a confrontation with Zelensky at the White House, which surprised European allies.

After the suspension of aid, the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency temporarily halted Ukraine's access to satellite imagery. Trump's advisors are considering easing sanctions imposed on Russia, such as establishing a price cap on its oil sales.

US and Ukrainian officials plan to meet in Saudi Arabia to restore relations and resume US arms and intelligence in Kiev. On the other hand, Trump’s stance towards Russia has raised concerns in Ukraine and among its European allies.

Although Russian officials have expressed willingness to consider a short-term ceasefire, Russia intensified airstrikes against Ukraine overnight. Trump believes that Vladimir Putin wants an agreement, but he threatened to impose more sanctions and tariffs on Russia if negotiations do not progress.

Since taking office, Trump has reversed US policy on Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Last month, he held phone conversations with Putin, and they agreed to hold a summit, with no date set. Russia rejected a Franco-British plan for a partial month-long ceasefire covering air and maritime operations, including a halt to attacks on energy infrastructure.
