Elon Musk Reports Massive Cyberattack on X

The magnate Elon Musk denounced on Monday a massive cyberattack against the social network X, which he owns, that was experiencing problems throughout the day. Musk suggested that there could be a coordinated group or even a country behind this, pointing to Ukraine as the possible origin of the attack. In an interview on Fox News, Musk revealed that the cyberattack was carried out using IP addresses originating from Ukraine with the aim of collapsing the X system. Users in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and other countries reported issues on the social network through DownDetector, with the peak of incidents around 10:00 AM ET (2:00 PM GMT), with about 40,000 reports. Musk responded to a post mentioning attacks on Tesla stores and discussing protests against the Government Efficiency Department of Donald Trump's administration, suggesting that the outages on X were a result of an attack. Upon confirmation of the cyberattack, a user commented that they might want to silence Musk and this platform, to which the magnate responded affirmatively. The reported problems on X included everything from slow platform loading to errors with code 520, related to web servers and associated with the cybersecurity company Cloudflare. In addition to the mentioned countries, others like El Salvador, the United States, and the United Kingdom also reported service failures following the social network's outage. Since then, X's performance has decreased significantly, as has the number of registered users. On October 27, 2022, Elon Musk confirmed the purchase of Twitter and expressed that his intention with the acquisition is to create a common digital space where a wide spectrum of beliefs can be discussed healthily, deeming it important for the future of civilization.
