Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced on Monday his proposal to extend the current martial law in the country until February 7, 2025. This decision was sent to Parliament through the parliamentary press service. In addition, Zelensky presented another bill to request lawmakers to extend the general military mobilization in Ukraine for another 90 days, which ends on November 10.
The Ukrainian Parliament initially implemented martial law and declared mobilization in February 2022, in response to the ongoing conflict with Russia. These measures have been considered crucial for maintaining security and stability in the country amid escalating tensions with Russia and persistent uncertainty in the region.
In this regard, Zelensky has emphasized the importance of having effective legal and military tools to protect Ukraine's territorial integrity and sovereignty. The extension of martial law and military mobilization reflects the determination of the Ukrainian government to confront any external threat and preserve peace in the country.
"It is crucial that we maintain our defensive readiness in these times of uncertainty and challenges. The extension of martial law and military mobilization will allow us to continue protecting our nation and our people," emphasized Zelensky.
