Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko called on residents to temporarily leave the city on Friday. This comes after Russian airstrikes caused heating to be cut off in half of the Ukrainian capital's residential buildings, as a cold wave is expected to intensify with temperatures dropping to -8 degrees Celsius. Klitschko said via social media: «Half of Kyiv's residential buildings, about 6,000 structures, are currently suffering from a heating outage due to damage inflicted on the city's critical infrastructure by a large-scale enemy attack». He also appealed to capital residents who have the ability to temporarily leave for places with alternative energy and heating sources to do so.
