U.S. Urges Ukraine to Resume Mineral Negotiations

The United States National Security Advisor, Mike Waltz, has urged Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to reduce rhetoric and resume discussions on minerals with his country. Waltz highlighted that Ukraine received significant financial support of $31.5 billion and pointed out the importance of returning to the negotiating table. He also emphasized that excessive demands, such as requesting $500 billion in minerals, are not part of a serious discussion.

In response, Zelensky expressed his gratitude to the United States for its support and stated Ukraine's willingness to discuss an agreement that guarantees the security of his country. Waltz emphasized the need to adopt a realistic vision and sign an agreement beneficial for both parties.

The proposed agreement, which proposes a 50% share of Ukraine's natural resources, was presented by U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent during the Munich Security Conference. Despite insistence from U.S. authorities, Kiev has so far rejected the proposal, arguing that they cannot sell the state of Ukraine.

After a meeting in Kiev with Keith Kellogg, U.S. Special Envoy for Ukraine and Russia, Zelensky described the discussions as productive. While Ukraine is open to an effective investment and security agreement with the United States, they have remained firm on not compromising the country's sovereignty. So far, no agreement has been reached between both parties, but negotiations continue.
