Zelensky Urges Trump to Resume Military Aid for Peace

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky responded on Tuesday to the interruption of military aid by the United States, requesting American President Donald Trump to resume cooperation to advance towards peace. He proposed a partial truce as the first step to end hostilities from Russia. Zelensky expressed on social media Ukraine's commitment to peace and showed willingness to work under Trump's leadership for lasting peace.

Zelensky stated that he seeks to quickly end Russia's war in Ukraine, which began with the Russian invasion in February 2022. Under pressure from the Trump administration to offer public apologies, the Ukrainian president proposed the release of prisoners and a truce in air and naval attacks as the first step towards peace. Additionally, he reaffirmed Ukraine's readiness to sign an economic agreement proposed by Washington.

In response to the interruption of military aid by the United States, Ukraine is seeking alternatives with European partners. Washington's decision was seen by the Kremlin as a positive step to force Ukraine to accept a peace process. On the other hand, from Kyiv, options are being examined to jointly produce weapons with other partners or acquire them from different countries due to the potential interruption of American aid.

The Ukrainian president also held talks with German conservative leader Friedrich Merz regarding the continuity of air defense system supplies to Ukraine from Germany. The Ukrainian Prime Minister expressed confidence in continued support from the United States and Ukraine's willingness to continue cooperating. Meanwhile, a Ukrainian MP reported that Ukraine has enough weaponry for the next six months, even without receiving additional help from the United States. Ukrainian authorities are exploring alternatives due to the risk of interruption of American aid.
