Russia has bombarded civilian areas of Ukraine almost daily since launching the war three years ago, causing thousands of casualties. Furthermore, the Russian army is heavily pressuring the frontline defenses in the eastern Ukrainian region of Donetsk.
South Korea, in close contact with NATO, the United States, and the European Union regarding recent events, warned of the possibility of sending arms to Ukraine in retaliation for the North's participation. Ukrainian President Zelenskyy indicated that this war has internationalized and goes beyond the borders of Ukraine and Russia.
In an effort to cooperate and share intelligence information, Zelenskyy and South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol agreed to intensify their cooperation. Meanwhile, North Korea strengthens its relationship with Russia, as evidenced by the visit of its top diplomat to the country.
Amid these tensions, Ukraine has used long-range drones to attack targets on Russian territory, managing to hit a special forces academy in Chechnya. Tensions on the Korean Peninsula have also increased, with North Korea conducting weapon tests and South Korea, along with the U.S., expanding military exercises.
Recently, Russian drones, missiles, and bombs have struck major cities in Ukraine such as Kyiv and Kharkiv, leaving dead and injured. Amid these attacks, President Zelenskyy mentioned the presence of thousands of North Korean soldiers reinforcing Russian troops, carrying the war beyond the borders of the conflicting parties.
The Ukrainian president met in Reykjavik with leaders of countries such as Denmark, Iceland, Finland, Norway, and Sweden to address the situation. It was also reported that Russia captured some villages in Donetsk, and a conference is expected in Canada to discuss the kidnapping of children by Russia in occupied territories of Ukraine.
The attacks continue, with reports of damage and casualties in various locations, such as the airstrike in Kharkiv that left houses destroyed and people injured. One of the targets was the historic Derzhprom building in Kharkiv, injuring seven people. Tension remains high, especially in certain areas like Kharkiv, where attacks have been more frequent in recent days.
