Zelensky Proposes Partial Ceasefire with Russia

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky suggests a partial ceasefire agreement with Russia to reduce conflict intensity, amid ongoing discussions on energy infrastructure attacks.

Zelensky Proposes Partial Ceasefire with Russia

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky raised the possibility of negotiating a partial truce with Russia to reduce the intensity of the conflict in the region. This proposal comes amid contacts between representatives of both countries to stop mutual attacks on energy-related targets.

Anglo-Saxon media have reported on these negotiations, which would involve facilitation from Qatar, resuming a process that was interrupted this summer. This cessation of attacks would guarantee Ukraine's ability to face the winter without fear of bombings on its power plants and could put an end to the destruction of Russian refineries by Ukrainian drones.

Energy security is one of the key points of the Ukrainian 'Peace Formula,' which seeks the withdrawal of Russia from the territories it occupies in Ukraine. This plan was discussed at an international summit in Switzerland in June, which included other aspects such as the release of prisoners of war and freedom of navigation in adjacent seas.

On the other hand, the 'Victory Plan' presented by Kiev seeks the military support necessary to stabilize the front and systematically attack Russian territory. However, so far, Ukraine's allies have shown no interest in meeting these demands, forcing the country to remain defensive on the front while considering a possible partial truce with Russia.

In this context, Zelensky poses the question of whether the cessation of attacks on energy infrastructure could lead to a decrease in the escalation of violence in the region, marking a shift in Ukraine's stance regarding negotiations for an agreement that alleviates the conflict situation that has persisted for years.
