Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has expressed his discontent towards the White House for leaking details about the so-called Kiev Victory Plan to the media. This leak revealed that, supposedly, the plan included a secret request to deploy Tomahawk missiles as part of a non-nuclear arms package to pressure Russia towards peace.
In a meeting with journalists in Reykjavik, Iceland, Zelensky stated that this information was confidential between Ukraine and the White House, and he has not received positive responses from his main partners to these requests. According to Kiev, the objective of the 'Victory Plan' is to increase military and political pressure on Russia to force the Kremlin to negotiate a peace on terms favorable to Ukraine in the near future.
The Ukrainian president clarified that the Tomahawk missiles would not be used immediately, but as a preventive measure in case Russia does not stop the war and continues to escalate. Among the demands of the plan is the guarantee that Ukraine will be admitted to NATO after the war, as well as the possibility of striking military targets in Russian territory with certain missiles that the Ukrainian Army already employs.
Zelensky explained that the 'Victory Plan' also involves the deployment of strategic non-nuclear arms in Ukraine. The intentions behind these requests point to a diplomatic and military strategy to protect Ukraine's interests and pressure Russia towards a negotiated peace.
