On Tuesday, it was announced that the population of Ukraine has shrunk by more than ten million people since the beginning of the war with Russia in February 2022. This information was presented in a report prepared by the Fund ON based on demographic statistics.
According to this report, in the regions most affected by the conflict in eastern Ukraine, the population has shrunk by approximately 20%. Under the conditions of hostilities, many people were forced to leave their homes and move to other areas of the country or beyond its borders.
Special attention in the report is given to women and children, who found themselves in vulnerable situations due to the armed conflict. The number of refugees and internally displaced persons in Ukraine has significantly increased over the past several years.
Moreover, due to the war in the country, a demographic crisis has been exacerbated, which may have serious consequences for the future population of Ukraine.
In the commentary on the report, it is stated: "These figures represent only a small part of the broader impact of the armed conflict on the lives of millions of people in Ukraine. Additional efforts are needed to provide assistance to those affected and to restore the country."
